Recreational Classes

Our coaches are certified by NCCP in gymnastics, Fundamental Movement Skills and Active Start.

Parent and tot:

Another wonderful way to connect Big Bug with Li’l Bug in a fun, guided, a wee-bit challenging manner. Sow the seeds of active living and learning through play in the early years of life.

  • 40 minutes

  • 14 months to 3 years

    Prerequisites:

  • No previous experience is required.

Preschool:

The preschool class is open to any preschool-aged children. The focus of the class is to develop fundamental movement skills (e.g. running, jumping, swinging) and motor skills (e.g. balance, different types of locomotion), as well as some basic gymnastics-specific skills (e.g. forward roll).

  • 40 minutes

  • Age: 2.5-5 years

    Prerequisites:

  • No previous experience is required.

Junior 1:

Junior 1 is an introductory class designed for younger children who have little or no gymnastics experience. The class is centred around developing a strong foundation in movement skills, body awareness, and gymnastics skills on (mostly) WAG apparatus.

  • 55 minutes

  • Age: 5.5-8 yrs

    Prerequisites:

  • No previous experience is necessary.

Junior 2:

Junior 2 is an advanced class for participants who have mastered skills taught in Junior 1. More complex skills are developed, accompanied by greater spatial awareness, balance, and strength and conditioning.

  • Age: 5.5-8 yrs

    Prerequisites:

  • Momentary handstand hold with straight body

  • Backwards roll

  • Chin-to-bar hold for 5 seconds

  • Inverted hanging

  • Rebounding off a floor or beatboard

 

Senior 1:

Senior 1 is an introductory class for older children wanting to get into gymnastics. Participants develop fundamental movement and gymnastics skills on primarily WAG apparatus, with a greater emphasis on strength and body awareness development.

    Prerequisites:

  • No previous experience is necessary.

Senior 2:

Senior 2 is an advanced class for older participants who have acquired all the skills taught in junior and senior 1. Skills, strength, and coordination are further developed in this class, and there is a greater emphasis on developing the confidence to perform more difficult skills without assistance.

  • Age: 8-12 yrs

    Prerequisites:

  • Momentary handstand hold with straight body

  • Dive roll & backwards roll

  • Chin-to-bar hold for 5 seconds

  • Cartwheel

  • Rebounding off a floor or beatboard

Teen:

The teen class is an introductory class for teenagers looking to get into gymnastics for fun, fitness, or skill development. Participants in this class will help to design the class curriculum, and so they have greater influence over what skills they want to learn. As such, teens looking to register for this class should have a few goals in mind that they would like to accomplish when they sign up!

High School

This class is for high school students looking to represent their school at high school gymnastics competitions around the lower mainland. As a result, there is a heavy emphasis on skill development, routine composition, and artistry. If possible, gymnasts should enroll in two classes per week.

Trampoline and Tumbling:

Trampoline and tumbling is a class for participants that would like to focus on floor and trampoline. Air awareness, complex motor coordination, and safe skill development are all key features of this program.skills.

Adult

The adult class is perfect for anybody looking to get into gymnastics, or for former or current gymnasts looking to sharpen their skills. The class includes a group warmup, conditioning, and cooldown. Additionally, the class features a guided open gym component. Participants can choose to follow a lesson plan made by the coach, or work on their own skills independently.

Parkour Fundamentals

This class is for anyone looking for some more interesting ways to move and get around! Athletes will explore different ways to utilize the floor, bars, walls, and gymnastics equipment to propel their body through space and over obstacles in a safe environment. The curriculum includes running up walls, vaulting over boxes, swinging from bar to bar, and other movements not explored in a typical gymnastics class.

  • Ages 7 - 12 years

  • 55 min

  • No previous experience is necessary.

Alternately Gifted

This is one space where alternately gifted children have an opportunity to participate in an organised sport under the expert guidance of our trained coaches. Benefits include physical fitness, confidence, increase in self esteem and, respect while being in a safe, fun, goal-oriented, inclusive environment.

  • Ages 6-15

  • 55 minutes

  • Parent involvement may be requested

Adult Drop-in:

A chance for adults young-at-heart to come in and learn something new or re-learn skills from their past.

  • Ages 13+

  • 1 hr 55 min

Family Drop-in:

  • A chance for kids to try out our facility or join their friends who attend classes here.

  • 55 min

  • Ages 1.5-12 years

  • Sundays from 1:30 - 2:30 pm
