McQuade Award

In honor of Arlene McQuade, parent on the board of directors from 1980 till 1984, well known to the members, ran very successful fundraisers to help turn RGGC (Richmond Girls Gymnastics Club) into RGA.

Named after Bev Cook, who was RGA’s Board member from 1980 till 1984. She helped moved RGA from Thompson Comm Center to the RCA Forum Facility

Nakano Award: Most Courageous

Lisa Nakano was a young Richmond gymnast who became National Beam Champion. She was also a coach with RGA for some time.

Bella Pizza Award: Rookie of the Year

The Tsougrianis family owned the Bella Pizza Restaurant. They were members
of the Board from 1988-1999 and were well-regarded within the community.

R-GAla award winners are chosen by the RGA coaches. In a meeting, coaches discuss nominations based on work ethic, competition results, and overall attitude throughout the season. Then, coaches take a vote to choose the winner for each award.

Bakaway Award: Gymnast of the Year

In honour of Shirley Bakaway, one of the founders of RGA and a former
National Judge.
